When is a Walk in the Park Not a Walk in the Park?

A fatal mugging occurred recently in a park in Parma, Ohio by a convicted felon. Parma is one of the safest neighborhoods in the Cleveland area but that doesn't matter anymore. The 52 year old woman victim was violently attacked with a 15 pound rock while walking her dog.

The sad part is is the alleged attacker is a convicted felon who was arrested 36 times in the past two decades and served time in eight state prisons on charges of burglary, attempted kidnapping, theft, robbery, possession of cocaine and possession of criminal tools The attack came just 10 days after the alleged attacker was released from a two-year prison sentence for robbery, his fifth conviction for the crime.

Since he was a crack addict, you think there would be a followup after he was released. Someone should have been checking on him if he didn't show up for his parole officer. It raises questions how the justice system let a dangerous man be free after a string of earlier violent offenses.

The criminals seem to get all the consideration by our legal system. No thought seems to be what the criminal will do after he is released.

In the media all you read is how a taser killed a criminal being arrested. These are criminals with a "rap" sheet longer than your arm. The families of the criminals are suing the Police Department and the city and many people are holding "vigils" for them. OUR PRIORITIES are all screwed up.

No wonder people are packing stun guns, pepper spray and personal alarms when they go outside. I don't blame them if they are packing "heat" although I am a strong supporter of gun control. I do recommend that they, especially women, take a Martial Arts class. It could save your life.

We need to put pressure on our prosecutors and judges. The people responsible for letting this criminal go unattended and giving him a slap in the wrist need to be accountable. Let's let them know with our letters and by not voting them in.

We hope that this death will sparkle various discussions about how violent offenders are handled by the courts., A cause like Mothers Against Drunk Driving is needed for this issue. "Where is the Mothers Against Repeat Felons.

We need to take action. I know this same thing is happening in your area. Let's make the legal system accountable for our victims.
